varidogThere's a battle of words going on right now, trying to decide which definition will hold more strongly.
Is an ebike a power assisted bicycle, or is an ebike a moped or light motorcycle?
By a recent New Jersey law, and an upcoming California law, ebikes as motor vehicles is predominating.
This is sad for ebikes as power assisted bicycles. It's a great technology for those who are younger, older, and don't have a license. Europe has shown had to manage them.
Unfortunately, people are smart, and even speed limited models have been hacked apart and rebuilt for speed, even the low powered ones. A motorcycle helmet and registration for a vehicle that's designed around sub-20 MPH usage is modern absurdism.
